Wow! Did you see the glamorous celebrities on the red carpet last weekend during the Academy Awards? Despite having to travel, and sometimes having to work 16 hours a day, they all looked so relaxed and rested when they arrived last Sunday night. Those celebrities have hair and makeup experts to make sure that they look flawless for a big event, but what about the rest of us who don’t have that luxury? Don’t worry, there are some simple things you can do to look relaxed and rested without a team of highly trained individuals spending hours working on you.
One of the most noticeable areas on the face that make people look tired or mad is the area in between the eyebrows. Many people flex small muscles in that area of the forehead when they read, or squint in the sun. Over time, repeatedly flexing that muscle can pull on the skin and create frown lines.
Some other causes of fine lines on the face is from sun exposure and smoking. Besides genetics, which we have no control over, sun exposure and smoking are the behavioral activities that we can avoid to help prevent premature wrinkles.
Topical creams that include a retinol are helpful to exfoliate dead skin and encourage new skin growth. This can help minimize the appearance of fine lines. I like Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream ($20)or Vichy LiftActiv HA ($47). For more persistent lines on the face, a prescription cream like Retin-A or Renova can be helpful.
Of course the most dramatic results will come from injectable agents like Botox and Dysport. They work very well and can last 3-4 months, but can also be pricy. If you are considering Botox or Dysport, but worried about cost, sometimes the companies offer promotional discounts. Take a look at my cosmetic artistry page to see a before and after photo from Allergan (the makers of Botox).
We may not be rich and famous, but with some rest and regular exercise, we can all look as glamorous as the Hollywood celebrities. Your friends and family will notice that you look more relaxed and may ask if you have been on a recent vacation. You will have to decide who you will share your secrets with and who you leave wondering….

I am always looking for new blog topics or interesting products. Send your ideas to firstname.lastname@example.org.
I have been asked if I receive any financial incentive to mention products in my newsletter/blog and the answer is no. I only comment on products that I have used myself or that I recommend to patients because they have unique benefits. However, I am a clinical trainer for both Medicis (Dysport/Restylane) and Allergan (Botox/Juvederm).
