Confidence Beyond the Skin-Do Hand Sanitizers Work?
Fall is here and that means the beginning of cold and flu season. A few members of the staff in my office have already been experiencing early season coughs and sniffles. Nobody likes to have a cold or flu, and we all know that washing our hands frequently is a great way to prevent the spread of germs, but what about hand sanitizers? Do they work? Are they safe?
The majority of hand sanitizers are alcohol based products that contain an active ingredient called ethanol. Ethanol is effective in killing multiple kinds of bacteria and even some fungal organisms. Hand sanitizers have actually been credited for minimizing some world wide epidemics of flu and other infections.
One problem with hand sanitizers is that repeated used of these products can affect the barrier of your skin which can result in your hands cracking and bleeding. This can actually lead to infection! It is important not to overuse hand sanitizers. If you are a big fan of these popular flu fighting products, try to use a heavy moisturizer cream on your hands at night. Repairing the barrier of your skin at night can help keep the skin on your hands soft and in tact even with daily use of hand sanitizers. Cerave cream is great for this!
Stay healthy this cold and flu season!

I am always looking for new blog topics or interesting products. Send your ideas to firstname.lastname@example.org.
I have been asked if I receive any financial incentive to mention products in my newsletter/blog and the answer is no. I only comment on products that I have used myself or that I recommend to patients because they have unique benefits. However, I am a clinical trainer for both Medicis (Dysport/Restylane) and Allergan (Botox/Juvederm).
